TRIP OVERVIEW

Northeast side of Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal lies a village called Sundarijal which is 15 km away from the Kathmandu valley. The name Sundarijal is derived from the term ‘Sundari’ which means beautiful and ‘Jal’ which means water. The region where the Bagmati river originated is also a major source of water supply during the time of the Rana Dynasty. Sundarijal Hydropower Station, 15 km northeast of Kathmandu, with a prior installed capacity of 640 KW, has been increased to 970 KW + 10% with completely tailored automation beginning in July 2021 as part of rehab work by contractor Power Mech Project Ltd.

People enjoy going for hikes and picnics in Sundarijal since it is so close to the Kathmandu valley. Sundarimai is a Hindu goddess who has a temple dedicated to her, and people come to worship her. The area is very rich in natural beauty, flora, fauna, river, and waterfall which is why people enjoy visiting Sundarijal for refreshment. Most people prefer going hiking and cycling in this area. The pilgrimage site of Budhanilkantha temple, Shivapuri National Park's Conservation Areas, villages, Nagi Gompa en route, and Tarebhir are all included in the hike from Budhanilkantha to Sundarijal (the cliff famous for Rock climbing). The road is ideal for bird watching and observing Kathmandu, which is encircled on all sides by four large hills. The hike is 18 km long and takes 5–6 hours to complete.

Between Sundarijal and Shivapuri National Park, there are numerous hiking opportunities. The trail is also suitable for cycling. We come across a lot of army postings here. This route has a mix of natural greenery, wild animals such as deer, leopards, and wild cats, as well as a haven for a variety of butterflies and birds. Aside from that, it has a cultural scent. All of this has been coupled with the breathtaking mountain sights that can be observed from this location.
