TRIP OVERVIEW

Ama Dablam is one of the most spectacular mountains in the world and a true alpinist's dream. In the eastern Himalaya Range of  Province No. 1 of Nepal, there lies a beautiful mountain Ama Dablam. Ama Dablam which means ‘Mother’s necklace’, the long ridges of each side like the arms of a mother protecting her child, and the hanging glacier thought of as a Dablam, the traditional double pendant containing pictures of the god, worn by Sherpa women. The main peak is 6812m  and the lower western part is 6170m.

It is situated at a distance of 162 km north of the provincial capital of Biratnagar and 152 northeast to Kathmandu, Ama Dablam is the third most popular Himalaya peak for permitted expeditions. It is renowned as a ‘must do’ for any committed alpinist, with an exposed rock ridge, dotted with towers and intricate climbing leading from Camp one to summit ice fields.

This unforgettable walk in the Khumbu region of Nepal involves a cultural trek into base camp, technical rock, snow, and ice climbing, and a stunning panoramic summit view of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu.

The usual ascension of Ama Dablam is done from the southwestern ridge. This was the same route that was followed by the climbers when they reached the top in 1961. Commonly, the climbers set up their three camps, just below and to the right of the hanging glacier ‘Dablam’. The hike is modest up to camp 1 but the challenges start from camp 1 to camp 2 as it gets more technical in the narrow edges of ridges made from granite. These challenges increase even more from camp 2 to camp 3. Some risk of glacier falls cannot be escaped but it is said that adventure without risk is no fun.

One should train himself in the skills of rocks and ice climbing and get used to the high altitude before thinking of climbing Ama Dablam. If you have previous experience in climbing mountains and wish to join in an expedition of climbing the world’s most extraordinary mountains then Ama Dablam Expedition is for you.

Major attractions of Ama Dablam trek

Itinerary

Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel and conduct some sightseeing, as well as some shopping if you need anything for the trip.

Take a flight to Lukla (2860m) from Kathmandu and trek to Phekding (2622m) and overnight stay at Phekding.

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will start ascending towards the Namche Bazar (3340m) by walking and having lunch on the way.

We will be staying at Namche today, since it's a high-altitude trek, it might get hard for our body to cope with the environment, so that is why we are taking a rest day today to let our body adapt to the environment.
