TRIP OVERVIEW

The holiest peak in Asia is Mt. Kailash (6714m). It is thought to be the physical manifestation of the mythological Mt Meru, which is claimed to be the 'navel of the globe' or the center of the universe. Mt. Meru is often portrayed as a mandala, and its image can be seen in Buddhist and Hindu art throughout Asia. Mt Kailas is sacred to four different religions. To Hindus, Kailash is Shiva's dwelling, while neighboring Mansarovar Lake represents Brahma's means or spirit. Kailas Kang Rimpoche is how Tibetans refer to him. Mt Ashtapada is revered by Jains as the peak where the religion's founder, Rishabanatha, attained spiritual emancipation. Kailash is revered as the spirit of Tibet by followers of Bon-Po, Tibet's old pre-Buddhist shamanistic religion.

Lhasa - Kathmandu Tibet is easier to reach for visitors who have more than two weeks to spend in the Ali Goge Kingdom in western Tibet. It was a little more difficult to travel the friendship route between Nepal and Tibet before five years. The road has now been completed and is in good condition. However, you must fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa one way or return from Lhasa to Kathmandu. Famous sakyapa and Mingmapa Buddhist monasteries may be found in Lhasa. Among these was the Potala Palace, a very historic structure where the Dalai Lamas spent their 14th reincarnation. Since 1954, when the palace was politically evacuated by the People's Republic of China, it has served as a museum for the residents. Tibet Tourism Board has been in operation since 1989, and it is now fully open to western visitors. Shera Monastery in the northwestern section of the city and Ganden Monastery in the southwestern area of the capital city Lhasa are the most well-known and oldest structures.
